A “Magic” Custom Display Cabinet
Earlier in the year, Pearl Street Game & Coffee House in Jeffersonville, IN came to us with a request for a special custom display cabinet. To become a premium store in the Wizards of the Coast Play network, they needed to have a face-on display cabinet that showcased the Magic: The Gathering playing cards that they sell.

Special Features of The Custom Display Cabinet
Face-On Display
The primary purpose of this special custom display cabinet is to showcase collectible cards for sale from the card game Magic: The Gathering. Pearl Street Games & Coffee host regular play events and tournaments for the game and due to its collectible nature, some rare cards can become heavily sought after. The cabinet needed to allow users to view the cards easily while keeping them secure. The cabinet can display 198 unique cards at a time.
Integrated Lighting

A hidden light system makes the cards easily visible even when the ambiance of the shop is dim. It also attracts the attention of players and non-players as a showpiece for these miniature pieces of art.
Security in A Custom Display Cabinet?
Magic: The Gathering (MTG) is a highly traded and collectible card game that’s been around since 1993. Based on rarity and condition, cards can fetch hefty prices, some into the thousands of dollars.
For security, Burkhart built the display portion of the custom cabinet out of solid butternut wood. The glass panels are made of security glass. Each door has hidden hinges and a keyed locking latch. The lower cabinets are also lockable and used for storage.

A Personal Touch
The owner of Pearl Street is a magic player and an artist. The lower section of the cabinet is built of maple and painted to contrast the stained top section. Two door panels of the lower storage cabinet we hand-painted by the owner, adding a special personal touch to the display.

The Finished Cabinet
When pictures of the finished custom display were sent for approval to Wizards of The Coast, they said it was one of the best face-on displays they’d ever seen. The display fulfilled all the requirements for that portion of the premium store application. The finished cabinet is available to view at Pearl Steet Games & Coffee in Jeffersonville, IN.
